The Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival began as The Arts Festival in 1957. Since 1962, it has taken place in the historic Old Mill Park. The Mill Valley Festival “reflects the spirit of Mill Valley and its purpose of supporting established independent artists and emerging student artists.” It includes entertainment by Bay Area performers, and showcases new and emerging artists.
The 2017 Festival will be held Saturday-Sundsay, September 16 -17 in Old Mill Park, Mill Valley. 140 artists, live music and children’s activities.
The mission of the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation is to encourage, promote and support the arts for the community. The Sausalito Art Festival, a waterfront event, is held annually on Labor Day Weekend. The 65th Annual Sausalito Art Festival was held September 2-4, 2017.
Arts Benicia hosts the Benicia Open Studios, a highly attended annual event with more than 4,000 visitors. Benicia is well known for its vibrant artist community. Each year scores of artists open the doors of their studio spaces throughout Benicia’s Historic Arsenal District and all over town, providing a unique glimpse into their creative world. Benecia’s Open Studios took place May 6-7. 2017.
The ICB Artists Association is “a large, vibrant and diverse community of talented artists in Sausalito, California.” Twice a year, the ICB opens their studios, known as the Sausalito Artists Open Studios. “Every year since 1968 we have collectively opened our doors to the public and allowed folks to come look at our artworks in their “native habitat”. The advantage of such events is that you really get to get a peek into the art making process in a way that museums and galleries cannot provide.”
Every year in Winter, the ICB holds their Annual Winter Open Studios event. This December 2017 the event preview is planned for December 2nd, and the studios to be open from Dec. 3rd-4th.
Every year in May, the ICB Art Center participates in the Marin Open Studios and their studios are open to the public.
“Marin Open Studios (“MOS”) is an annual art event, featuring a tour of Marin and its vibrant arts scene in April and May. Here is an event description from MOS: “Over 250 artists open their studios in this annual two-weekend arts festival honoring the talented fine artists who live and work in Marin County. Artists’ throughout Marin County, California open their facilities in cities, towns and hamlets to exhibit their fine works of art. Affording the visitor to personally meet the artist and learn about the influence and meaning of their art works.”
The printed MOS Tour Guide is valued as a year round catalogue to the artists in Marin and distributed in Marin Magazine to 38,000 residents. Their relaunched website also shows the artists in an online gallery.
The next self-guided Open Studios event will be May 5-6 and May 12-13, 2018.
The Point Reyes Open Studios Group (PROS) was established in 1997 to promote the work of artists living around Tomales Bay, California. PROS has over thirty members including ceramicists, photographers, sculptors in stone and wood, painters, printmakers, fiber artists and artists who work with recycled materials located in Point Reyes Station, Inverness Park, Inverness, Olema and Marshall.
