Art Society of Inverness


The Art Society of Inverness is a society in Western Marin, California that provides classes, workshops, talks, demonstrations and other services to the art community. The Art Society is celebrating their 70th anniversary in 2014. "Members come from all over the Highlands and beyond, and include a wide spectrum of artists, from professionals to leisure painters."

Art Works Downtown


Art Works Downtown is San Rafael’s  non-profit art center: “Art Works Downtown exists to broaden and deepen our community’s engagement with art. We work to connect artists and the public by providing affordable studio, housing and exhibition space; business opportunities and professional support for artists and arts organizations; and education and outreach for the public.”

BayWood Artists


BayWood Artists is a group of professional landscape painters who are dedicated to preserving the environment for future generations to enjoy, founded in 1997 and now celebrating their 20th Anniversary. Each year the BayWood Artists partner with an environmental organization in the Bay Area to produce a fine art show and donate fifty percent of the sales proceeds to that organization.

Creative San Rafael

Golden Gate Marin Artists


The Golden Gate Marin Artists was organized in 1972, a branch of the National League of American Pen Women in support of women writers, artists, and composers. The members of Golden Gate Marin Artists exhibit throughout Marin, San Francisco, and Sonoma counties. The organization also awards an annual scholarship to a female high school student who intends to continue her art studies in college. 

Headlands Center for the Arts


Headlands Center for the Arts is dedicated to supporting artists and runs an Artist in Residence program located in a cluster of artist-rehabilitated military buildings in the Marin Headlands. The centers supports artists of all disciplines, from visual artists to performers, musicians, writers, and videographers.

ICB Artists (Sausalito Artists Open Studios)


"A large, vibrant and diverse community of talented artists in Sausalito, California." Twice a year, the ICB opens their studios, known as the Sausalito Artists Open Studios. 

"Every year since 1968 we have collectively opened our doors to the public and allowed folks to come look at our artworks in their "native habitat". The advantage of such events is that you really get to get a peek into the art making process in a way that museums and galleries cannot provide."

Every year in Winter, the Center holds their Annual Winter Open Studios in Sausalito, California.
Every year in May, the Center participates in the Marin Open Studios and their studios are open to the public .

Marin Art and Garden Center (MAGC)


The Marin Art and Garden Center ("MAGC") is a nonprofit organization with 11 acres of historic gardens in Ross, California, open to the public. According to the website, "the Center was incorporated in 1945, its primary mission to promote appreciation and education of the arts, horticulture and environmental conservation."

"The Marin Art and Garden Center had its origin in the 1940’s as a vision of two members of the Marin Conservation League, Caroline Livermore and Gladys Smith. Using the Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park as a model, they envisioned a self-supporting colony of artists and crafts persons creating and selling their wares within a park-like setting."

The Center also houses the Ross Valley Players theater, the Tamalpais Conservation Club, and other resident groups.

Marin Open Studios (MOS)


Marin Open Studios is an annual art event, featuring a tour of Marin and its vibrant arts scene in April and May.  Here is an event description from MOS:  "Over 250 artists open their studios in this annual two-weekend arts festival honoring the talented fine artists who live and work in Marin County.  Artists' throughout Marin County, California open their facilities in cities, towns and hamlets to exhibit their fine works of art. Affording the visitor to personally meet the artist and learn about the influence and meaning of their art works."

The printed MOS Tour Guide is valued as a year round catalogue to the artists in Marin and distributed in Marin Magazine to 38,000 residents.  Their relaunched website also shows the artists in an online gallery.

Marin Society of Artists


Marin Society of Artists is a non-profit association  that offers art classes in many media, and runs a main gallery with monthly exhibits. The Society’s gallery showcases paintings, sculpture, fiber art, ceramics, photography, jewelry, wood, and other media. The group is now renting studios in their new location in San Rafael. The society also operates a rental gallery for Marin art lovers and home stagers.



A county-wide arts service organization dedicated to empowering all the arts in Marin County "visual arts, theater, film, music, literature, festivals, workshops, family events and more."  In late 2014,  became Marin County's official State-Local Partner with the California Arts Council. Their first project is a comprehensive art and cultural calendar.

Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival

This event began as The Arts Festival in 1957. Since 1962, it has taken place in the historic Old Mill Park. The Mill Valley Festival "reflects the spirit of Mill Valley and its purpose of supporting established independent artists and emerging student artists." It includes entertainment by Bay Area performers, and showcases new and emerging artists.

Novato Arts Center


The Novato Arts Center at Hamilton Fied houses over forty working artists in 3 buildings, the Marin Museum Of Contemporary Art, a museum store and classrooms. The Center also leads the First Sunday Open Studios, welcoming visitors into artist studios each month.

O’Hanlon Center for the Arts


The mission of O’Hanlon Center for the Arts is to provide programs, studio space, exhibitions, and experiences that honor individual creativity, develop artistic practice, and build community.

Point Reyes Open Studios Group (PROS)


The Point Reyes Open Studios Group (PROS) was established in 1997 to promote the work of artists living around Tomales Bay, California.  PROS has over thirty members including ceramicists, photographers, sculptors in stone and wood, painters, printmakers, fiber artists and artists who work with recycled materials located in Point Reyes Station, Inverness Park, Inverness, Olema and Marshall.

San Anselmo Artist Studios (SAAS)


San Anselmo Artist Studios (SAAS) was established twenty-five years ago in the old Isabel Cook Elementary School, which now houses a community center and the artist studios. SAAS artists participate in a variety of community service activities, donate art to local non-profits and offer studio tours to schools.

San Anselmo Arts Commission


The San Anselmo Arts Commission was established in July 1996 by Town Council with the goal of  adding to the cultural character of Ross Valley through any form of artistic expression. The objectives include providing a structure to facilitate the creation of art in all disciplines in the community, promoting and exhibiting art and cultural works produced by Ross Valley artists, and promoting art education in the community and schools.

Sausalito Art Festival


The mission of the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation is to encourage, promote and support the arts for the community. The Sausalito Art Festival, a waterfront event, is held annually on Labor Day Weekend.

Youth in Arts


Mission: “To provide students with high quality experiences and instruction in the visual and performing arts, and to enrich the community with cultural events. Through artist residencies, professional performances, school and community events, and intensive out-of-school programs for teens, we help young people develop skills and confidence to share their unique creative voices.”
